Was Paid a Penny, So I'll say My Thot

"When you try so hard to be good to people
You easily become a carpet for them to step upon"

Be a good person in the way God has created and molded you
Man does not deserve any alteration of your good person.

You're right.
I guess we should not try to hard to please people.

You seem to be talking from experience, have you been a floor mat lately?

Your irregular ode to Africa ""The Ailing Baby of the World" could have benefited from "Was Paid a Penny, So I'll say My Thot" as chrous. That seemed to be the magic of Maya Angelou who dared to just say it as she saw it.

In her 1969 autobiographical novel "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings", she tacked the very difficult issues of prejudices in society including sexism, rape and racism. But the beauty is in the title.

The title of the novel came from the poem "Sympathy" by Paul Laurence Dunbar which I wish to share below. We are all so close to eachother yet cause so much pain. Philosophers are still debating this paradox but we live to fight another day.

"I know why the caged bird sings, ah me,
When his wing is bruised and his bosom sore,
When he beats his bars and would be free;
It is not a carol of joy or glee,
But a prayer that he sends from his heart's deep core,
But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings -
I know why the caged bird sings. (Stanza 3)"

hmmm...that's a nice literary suggestion.

There is beauty in combination.
